I've been using one of these Holmes HM3500 Humidifiers every winter for about five years. It's done a good job at keeping the humidity at a comfortable level in our 2,400-square-foot house. I usually run it about 5 or 6 hours after work on weekdays and about 12 hours on weekend days. It puts out about one quart of water per hour with both the humidity control and fan setting on medium.
I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that it can be awkward to refill the tanks. I've found that if I sit the tank in the kitchen sink and lean it against one of the sink corners it will stand on its own while being filled with water. Carrying the full tank is a two-handed job. The only (minor) complaint that I have is that sometimes the cap is hard to unscrew when it's time to refill the tank. But that's probably my fault for tightening it a little too much when I fill the thing.
I'm surprised that so many reviewers say they get only a few weeks from each wick. I usually replace the wick once each winter, and one time I was too lazy to buy a new wick, so I used the same one for two consecutive winters. The wick was pretty worn out after two years, but the humidifier worked fine.
I assume that complaints about the wheels "breaking" is because the wheels are easily removable, and if you lift the unit off the ground one or two of the wheels might slide out of their shaft housing. It's no problem; you just slide the wheel shaft back where it belongs and everything is fine. It's actually better to just slide the unit across the floor for short distances rather than trying to pick it up. After all, when it's full of water it's pretty heavy!
It does gurgle occasionally when water is automatically transferred from one of the tanks to the bottom reservoir, but that's no problem either. It only lasts a couple of seconds and I don't find the sound to be annoying.
This humidifier does what I want it to, and if it ever breaks down I'll try and replace it with exactly the same model.
