Wow I've had this fan for about 8 months now. It is by far the loudest fan I've ever owned (this is with it on the lowest setting). I am a sleeper who likes a cold room, which is what this fan was purchased for. Forget about having it on when trying to sleep or watching TV in a bedroom at night. You'll have to your TV up several bars just to hear it over the loud fan. It sounds like a large industrial fan at night if you're trying to sleep with it on.
This is what you get when try to have a small fan kick out the same air volume as that of a 16 inch fan. This fan is much louder that the more expensive Vornado, which is what it resembles. The Holmes Velocity Blizzard Fan does do a great job of cooling a room, and circulating large amounts of air for its size.
It's been used about 8-12 hours a day for about 6 days a week for the 8 months that I've owned it. It's been very reliable so far. One thing is that the noise does get louder due to dust build up on the back grill due to its design of having a very limited air intake because the motor blocks most of the back grill. So I have to continually keep it clean.
It gets a bad score for noise alone. I guess I'll have to shell out more money for the Vornado...I was trying to avoid this in the first place.
